Happy Sunday! 🌼
By the time you’re reading this, I will have seen my very first BTS concert, and getting ready for the second one tonight. My friends and I have been looking forward to this since we won the “Hunger Games” war for tickets. During those months, we’ve all gone through various challenges with work, home, family, health, etc. But the one thing that has kept us all going was the promise of getting to see our favorite group in person, together.
Having something to look forward to really makes life feel a little lighter and easier. Of course there are the big things, like concerts, vacations, milestones, and more. But then there are the little things that we look forward to that can make us keep going even when times are hard. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve said at night, “I can’t wait to wake up and have my morning cup of coffee.” I recently had a call on my calendar to catch up with a friend that I haven’t talked to in ages. Yes, it was an actual call and not a text conversation. I pre-order books so I have something to look forward to, and it helps authors in the process. I always make sure to have something to look forward to. It’s what keeps me moving forward, and feeling hopeful.
Whether it’s the calendar on your phone, or a physical calendar like the one my mother has hanging up, take a look and see what you have coming up. If the only things you have scheduled are obligations, chores, and appointments that you aren’t necessarily looking forward to, it’s time to add some things that actually make you smile when you see and think about them. Schedule that coffee date with a friend (or yourself), plan a home spa day, sign up for a class to learn something new. There are so many things you can plan, big and small, expensive and free (or inexpensive).
And don’t forget to notice the small things that you look forward to, like to do with my morning coffee. I saw someone online say that they order free samples to get surprises in the mail. Go for a ride and visit a town/city you’ve never been to and walk around and explore. Find an outdoor exercise class or group that you can join. The possibilities are endless.
Wishing you a great week and lots to look forward to in the coming months.
